Your tour price

4 min read

Your VoiceMap tour is sold at voicemap.me, and within our mobile apps. We use the iTunes App Store's pricing tiers, denominated in US dollars, and you can select any price between $5.99 and $29.99. To understand how we calculate royalties, take a look at a sample royalty calculator.

Select a tour price

You can select a price through the tour's distribution tab, which you'll find on your publisher dashboard.

  1. Open your publisher dashboard and scroll down to the bottom of the page
  2. Find the relevant tour in the Your Tours section (here you'll see all the tours you've created)
  3. Under Manage Tour on the right, click the "Edit tour" button (this will take you to your tour in Mapmaker)
  4. Click on "Distribution" on the right of your screen
  5. The price tab will open automatically, but you can also access other distribution tools here (like your QR codes and featured location)
  6. Choose the relevant price from the dropdown menu
  7. Click save

The Distribution tab in Mapmaker, showing the price dropdown open with a few price options visible.

Prices in other currencies

You can see your tour's price in a different currency on the web by clicking the currency selector next to My Account, at the top of the page. In the app, the price shows in the currency linked to the listener's app store account, which is usually but not always their local currency. Since prices are converted from USD, you'll sometimes see a price ending in .99 or .49 rather than a round number once it's converted.

All other prices on the website, including on our pricing page, are shown in USD.

Choosing the right price

When you choose a price, think about your target audience. Where is your route going to be used? What kind of experience does it offer?

Unless your tour is very short, we'd recommend keeping your price at $9.99 or above. Price signals quality, and a lower price doesn't necessarily mean more sales. In fact, it can just as easily mean fewer, since some listeners associate a bargain price with a bargain experience.

A few other things to consider when choosing your price:

  • Longer tours: Tours with more content, more locations, and longer audio generally warrant higher prices, since they offer more value for the listener's money.
  • Specialist content: Niche tours (e.g. historical figures or events, film or media, food and drinks) can command premium pricing since the content appeals to a dedicated audience.
  • Very short tours: If your tour is genuinely brief, a lower price point may still make sense, but this should be the exception rather than the default.
  • Tour passes: Passes let listeners unlock your tour at a discount, so you earn less per tour than on a direct sale. Keeping your individual tour price higher makes the most of your direct sales, while passes bring you listeners who've already committed to exploring more. Read more about how passes work.

Changing your price

You can change your tour's price at any time through the distribution tab, but for continuity, you can only do so once every 30 days. Price changes take effect immediately on the web, and in the apps.

If your tour has translated versions, we recommend keeping the price the same across all translations, so listeners see consistent pricing regardless of language.

If your tour is listed with our reseller network, we'll update your price on Viator and TripAdvisor too. This is done manually on our side, so it usually takes a day or two to reflect there.

You can always adjust your tour price to fit seasonal fluctuations, or as part of an annual update. We also run our own price analysis across all tours once a year, and may reach out with a recommended price change for you to approve.

Free tours

Making your tour free requires a Pro or Premium plan. If you're on one of these plans and would like to make your tour free, contact your editor or email editors@voicemap.me. Free tours use a different distribution model and require download credits.
