How are my earnings from tour sales calculated?

You earn a royalty of either 50% or 65% from the sale of your VoiceMap tours, depending on your publishing plan. This is calculated after payment processing fees, which vary by distribution channel.

Royalties only apply to distribution channels managed by VoiceMap, which include in-app purchase, voicemap.me and resellers. If you use voucher codes to sell tours yourself, through your own channels, you only pay a fee for the voucher of $2.00, $0.89, $0.62 or $0.31. The price of vouchers depends, once again, on your publishing plan.

Distribution channels

Our distribution channels include:

• Website purchases — processed by Stripe, which charges 3.4% plus $0.50 SGD per transaction. ($0.50 SGD is roughly $0.35 USD, but when the exchange rate moves, it can be a few cents higher or lower.)
• In-app purchases — processed by either Apple or Google, which both charge a 15% commission on purchases from users who have subscribed to the respective app store for more than a year, and 30% for newer subscribers.
• Reseller purchases — processed through platforms like Viator, which charge their own commission rates.

Example calculations

Website purchase at $9.99 (50% royalty)

1. Sale price: $9.99
2. Stripe fee: $9.99 × 3.4% + $0.35 = $0.69
3. Net after processing: $9.99 - $0.69 = $9.30
4. Your royalty (50%): $4.65

In-app purchase at $9.99 (50% royalty, 15% Apple fee)

1. Sale price: $9.99
2. Apple fee (15%): $1.50
3. Net after processing: $9.99 - $1.50 = $8.49
4. Your royalty (50%): $4.25

Voucher code sale (you sell directly)

1. You sell a voucher to a customer for $9.99
2. Voucher credit cost: $2.00 (Basic plan)
3. Your profit: $7.99

Publishing plans affect your earnings

Higher publishing plans offer better royalty rates and lower voucher credit costs. If you're selling significant volumes, upgrading your plan can substantially increase your per-sale earnings.
